What is the link with Europe?

The European Mobility Week has started in the European Union in 2002 with the political support of the European Commission, DG Environment. At the European level, three networks of European cities and towns are in charge of the campaign coordination.

Eurocities, association of major European cities, Energie-Cités, association of European local authorities promoting local sustainable energy policy and Climate Alliance, Climate Alliance of European cities with indigenous rainforest peoples are the core consortium.

The national coordinators which are representatives of national ministries and national agencies, representatives of European and International Associations and Organisations take directly part to the decision making process, the promotion and the organisation of the Campaign.

Meetings and exchanges all year long enable all these partners to bring together experiences and ideas from all over Europe to build a common message: a theme for the Campaign edition, a common kit of communication aids and tools, documents to help the cities and towns to organise the Campaign at the local level.

The national coordinators play a key role in their country to inform the cities about the European Mobility Week and ensure its promotion and organisation in their country.
