What does it consist of?

The success of such an operation on a European wide scale means the mobilisation of as many countries and towns as possible but it also requires homogeneity of measures introduced.

That is why, in each Member State, the national partners (ministries and /or environmental or energy agencies, environmental protection associations...) have a unifying role, ensuring coherence in the political message, the establishment of a common methodology, the organisation of national communication and dissemination to all the participating towns of technical and communication tools developed in liaison with all the European partners in the project.

At local level, each town or participating area then implements its own "In town without my car!" operation by mobilising as many citizens as possible as well as the socio-economic players such as, shopkeepers, companies, associations, educational establishments, etc.

In practical terms, several streets in the towns are closed to traffic: thus, one can rediscover the pleasure of walking around one’s own town undisturbed. But it also enables comparative reports to be drawn up on air quality, noise pollution or the reduction of motor traffic during the operation and in the normal situation. The results are globally significant as they show considerable improvements in each of these areas.
