Thanks to a strong commitment among companies, organisations, associations and municipal governments, the 2010 event will offer a wide range of fun and interesting activities throughout the week.
Politicians on bicycles
The national and municipal elections will take place in Sweden on the 19th of September this year. Many politicians will therefore be participating in different events during the European Mobility Week in Gävle. The public is invited to a soup lunch where traffic, environmental and health issues will be discussed among politicians in a panel debate.
Some politicians will also participate in the bicycle race “Gästrikeloppet”, which takes place on the day “In town without my car”, the day before the Swedish election. At least five teams from different political parties, with a minimum of four politicians in each team, will compete against each other. The bicycle race is 20 kilometres long and starts at 10 a.m. The winner will be announced at 1:00 p.m.

Everyday exercise is the best medicine
During the day “In town without my car”, the public health unit at the county council will give practical advice on how to get into good shape and how to stay that way. A better climate, cleaner environment and improved health will be achieved, and both time and money will be saved, if we all travel smarter.
This year we concentrate a little bit more on the companies in Gävle. Company owners are invited to a climate-themed breakfast lecture where they get information about the benefits received by cycling to and from work, and the possibility to make tax deductions on fitness care offered to the employees.
Fun on a bike
The Orienteering Club in Gävle organises a bicycle orientation event between the 16th of September and the 13th of October. It is a fitness event adapted to be completed preferably by cycling, which can be done in a group or individually. This activity is designed to match pictures with marked numbers on a map. Every picture has an associated letter. When you know at what location the picture is taken, you write down the letter of the picture in the correct square on the control card. Generous prizes will be raffled off among the participants.
