The focus of the 2009 edition’s program, is represented by the two days of events dedicated to the themes of sustainability, such as “Cycling along Kyoto”, promoted by the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Bologna in order to spread the adoption of sustainable consumptions and lifestyles.
Two days of events dedicated to healthy and sustainable lifestyles in the wonderful scenario of the compound of Sala Borsa, Piazza Maggiore and Piazza Nettuno. The event will symbolically focus on the bicycle: a simple and quite ancient means of transport that anyway lends itself to answer the complex needs of the new millennium: from the need to realize a sustainable mobility in the cities to the need of keeping fit in a natural way, thanks to a daily light physical activity.
Furthermore, thanks to its respect for the surrounding environment, the bicycle well communicates the concept of a sustainable use of the territory. Thanks to the “bike-generators”, people will discover energy and how much effort it requires to be produced. During the event, many volunteers will cycle in a symbolic trip to Kyoto, following a journey in stages that will allow them to discover best practices of “sustainability” from other countries.
After the symbolic trip to Kyoto, the event will take the participants to Copenhaghen, thanks to a video-box that will collect the messages they left for the leaders that will be reunited in Denmark to debate and take important decisions on climatic changes. During the whole week will be active a “Cycle Office” for a free check-up of the bikes and the application of the “registration mark” against theft. On Saturday morning a big relay will see many participants cycling from the whole Region taking their typical food and products to Piazza Maggiore.
he Municipality of Bologna joins in also to the “European day without cars” that will be dedicated to the mobility modalities with less impact for the environment, with particular attention to the improvement of public transport. In this occasion, the bus ticket will be valid for the whole day of the 22nd September and in the whole city. During this day, the new methane urban buses will be presented together with the new guided trolleybus system, an innovative e-ticketing system, the strengthening of some important bus services and a complex of interventions aimed to improve their accessibility to the bus stops. The rich program will be completed by: many live performances that will take place in the square, a convention on sustainability and Economy and some workshops dedicated to the good practices and to the healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
These events and initiatives will represent also the occasion to announce to the citizenship the European Project Civitas Mimosa that supports and promotes sustainable mobility thanks to the participation of the Municipality of Bologna, Emilia Romagna Region, the local mobility Company ATC and the mobility agency SRM. The realization of the planned interventions within the project, will contribute to make concrete this years’ European Mobility Week slogan, that is “Improving city climates”.
