European Mobility Week 2009 in Nantes
Since 2001, Nantes Métropole has been organizing the European Mobility Week on its territory. For Nantes Métropole, this week is the opportunity for inhabitants to get information on environemental means of transport, but above all, a moment to help them to change their habits for the benefit of more virtuous practices.

Thus, for 2009, Nantes Métropole proposes to citizens specific commercial offers to discover public transport, two bike rental services and the local car sharing service of the town: Marguerite.

In order to sensitise inhabitants but also territory visitors, Nantes Métropole relies on an important communication plan disseminated on the whole territory (24 towns) and bound to different categories of inhabitants (General public, commuters, school child and students, shopping center’s customers, ...)


Description of the actions in relation with the topic:

In partnership with numerous actors (institutionals, associatives, and privates) a panel of actions and events give to this week a more efficient effect and a stronger image. Thus, for 2009, the activity program plans notably:

  • Eco-driving lessons for everyone
  • A personal transport budget management free tool
  • A stand devoted to bike practicing with maintenance and repairing services
  • An extension of Bicloo bike rental self-service with 10 new stations
  • A spreading of the database of the car-sharing website to make it more competitive
  • A cleaning campaign for cars parked in parks-and-ride to encourage people to use them
  • The organization of tours for bikers and walkers, and paper chases to make people aware of the new pedestrian and cycle lanes
  • Incentive to school eco-mobility
  • Large promotion of electrical bikes and implementation of an experiment of electrical bike loans from the train station for train commuters and train visitors
  • Experimentation of a new service in distinctive moving advices for job-seekers

Testing offers to discover and adopt the best travelling ways for our climates. The main measures taken are:

  • Buy 10 tram tickets, get one free
  • Rent a bike for half price

Activity plan organized by the local authority for the event:

The mobility village: from the 16th to the 19th of September, Place du Commerce, Nantes Métropole invites you to its stand. Come and discover the mobility services and the partners, the offers for the new academic year, test the software to run your transport budget and the eco-driving simulator.

Activities in your town: from the 16th to the 22 th information, exhibitions, strolls

Electrical bikes: Try and win an electrical bike with the Beaulieu shopping mall.

Touring information: During the whole week, delivery tricycles will meet you in all towns taking part in the European mobility week.

Description of permanent measures implemented this year:

  • Extension of the self-service bike rental system (Bicloo)
  • 3 new stations for marguerite carsharing vehicles
  • A communication campaign based on Copenhagen 2009.
