Transportation is the main source of noise, a car alone produces 80 decibels. At a very busy junction, the noise can reach 90 decibels!


Noise and health
Noise is bad for health.
When the ear is exposed to a very loud, localised noise, (explosion, etc.) or one that is repetitive (discotheque, noisy roadworks, main road, etc.), some nerve cells for hearing can be permanently destroyed, which leads to problems of deafness.


Cars take up too much room
Problems with congestion in town centres are a growing concern for European citizens.
