Detailed description (English): Every year Europe celebrates its largest event related to sustainable urban transport, through EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK. This initiative aims to encourage local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable transport measures, allowing citizens the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities dedicated to sustainable mobility, leading to a change in behavior, particularly when it comes to car use particular.
Under this initiative, the "Europe Direct Information Centre Madeira", in partnership with the "Madeira Cycling Association" performs between 16 and 22 September the initiative "BIKE WEEK 2016", promoting reflection on the economic and environmental benefits of regular use of bicycles, instead of the private car.
To participate, each rider will have to make the registration on the site "BIKE WEEK", where there will be a digital counter that will make the daily record of kilometers traveled by the participants. In addition there will be two other counters that will indicate how the use of bicycles contributed to saving economic and environmental costs (saved euros and CO2 emissions). At the end of the initiative, the ten winners of the ranking will have direct access to our "Awards Bag".
Participation does not imply any cost, just filling out the form in http://bikeweek.aigmadeira.com
Target group(s): General population (bike enthusiasts)
Objectives: - Enhance and encourage use of bicycles;
- Demonstrate the direct benefits of cycling in terms of economic (euros) and environmental (CO2 emissions) savings.
Expected Outcomes: Since the use of regular bike has little expression in Madeira Island, we do not expect to reach many participants, but all the participants (no matter how many...) we will be important to demonstrate the benefits of using this mean of transport.
When completed, the results will be analyzed and discussed on social media networks (facebook), showing the positive impact of the use of bicycles .
Also we count with the support of the media coverage in the regional press and radio station.
