Detailed description (English): What do we want to achieve?
We want more people to experience first hand how easy and enjoyable cycling can be. That's why the aim of the challenge is to encourage as many people as we can to ride a bike for at least 10 minutes between the 1st-30th September.
Why Take part?
It's: Fun, free an easy. It will bring a smile to your face and make the world a better place! And, you and your colleagues can win some great prizes!
What is the National Cycle Challenge?
The National Cycle Challenge is a free, fun competition for workplaces to see which can get the highest number of employees to ride a bike. The workplaces and departments that get the highest percentage participation (for their size category) win a team prize. The competition is based on numbers of staff taking part, not how far or fast they can cycle.
The Cycle Challenge aims to get more people cycling more often, whether that be for fun, exercise or to work.
Imagine if more people cycled in your area - our air would be cleaner, our city and county would be more peaceful and our streets would be safer.
Studies have shown that places with more cyclists - because of their increased presence and visibility - become much safer for cycling with fewer incidents per cyclist, so by taking part you will be helping to make your area safer for cycling.
Who can take part?
Anyone who lives or works in a participating area can take part. You can sign up with your workplace or as an individual.
Organisations and departments will compete against those of a similar size for a fair chance of winning. There are six size categories:
500+ staff
200-499 staff
50-199 staff
20-49 staff
7-19 staff
3-6 staff
Target group(s): cycling, commute
