Detailed description (English): Cycling Without Age is a movement started in 2012 by Ole Kassow in Copenhagen. Ole wanted to help the elderly get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents.
Within just a few years, Cycling Without Age has spread to more than 40 countries, with local group in dozens of cities. Cycling without Age Germany is working to establish a larger network of CWA chapters and volunteers across Germany, lead by volunteers of CWA Bonn in close cooperation with Ole Kassow.
In 2018, the group cycled the complete 1100 km kilometers "Cycling Rote of German Unification" (Radweg der Deutschen Einheit) Bonn to Berlin with a group of rickshaws and more than 40 volunteers.
This year, the second long distance tour by rickshaw is taking them from Lake Constance to Bonn along the Rhine, Eurovelo 15 route, with several excursions and activities for senior citizens along the way.
We hope to be positive with this action on several levels. On the one hand it is of course practiced volunteer care for the elderly and not only at our location in the Rhineland, but across Germany. On the other hand, we are giving incentives to many institutions in Germany to consider founding such own initiatives.
