Detailed description (English): Through this funny performance, in one of the numerous sidewalks of Burgos in which pedestrian and cyclists are forced to share a minimal space , the pedestrian association "Andando Burgos" tries to recall the attention of politician and civil engineers at the town hall about the weird situations that happens when they push the bike infrastructures on sidewalks at the cost of pedestians ease.
Burgos has approximately 55 KM of cycling infrastructure, which is could translate as around 195 Km/10*6 inhabitants, The problem is that a lot of this infrastructure was built at the cost of the sidewalks. This has created numerous situation in which the pedestrians have less space that bikes and also a another shortcoming is "normalizing " the circulation of cyclist on all the sidewalks of the city. That error in the design of the cyclist infrastructure has generate a wrong perception of cyclist by pedestrians.
With this action we want to call the attention of citizens, politicians and civil engineers about the need to rethink the current use and share of our streets. To point the need to reduce the space given to cars - frequently without any need- in exchange for a better pedestrians & cyclist physical security, and for improving public transport. So, in this way we want to stop the construction of this type of infrastructure and push forward for a speed reduction on the city roads to become more safe for either cyclist and pedestrians. In this way, we could promote a larger share of these active and sustainable modes of move in the city.
Target group(s): The beneficiaries of our MOBILITYACTION are pedestrians of all ages and physical capacities, and cyclists.
Objectives: To increase the awareness of citizens, local politicians, civil engineers at the city hall on how the design of our city increase the insecurity of pedestrian and cyclists instead of promoting it. To request a fair share of street spaces for pedestrians, cyclist and public transport; by decreasing the car space and also their speed.
Expected Outcomes: To change the values and mind set of the city hall actors regarding the need to reduce the road speed in the city to increase the safety of pedestrian and cyclist.
