Detailed description (English): Our organisation provides free rides for the elderly from rural areas. Our volunteers are people of all ages and professions. The organisation owns the car, with which we drive the elderly. For EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK we have invited the political decision makers from the municipalities that we work in, to participate as volunteers (four Slovenian municipalities). They will one day each drive the elderly to run errands, go to the doctor's and just, simply talk to them during a ride. It is of great importance that the society as a whole, becomes aware of the difficulties that the elderly from rural areas face nowadays involving transport to towns, where everything is (doctor, pharmacy, shops, social events etc.). It is not easy for them to go to the doctor's, to buy bread and milk or to visit old friends, relatives. These people became used to not going anywhere. They just want to stay at home and are therefore lonely and isolated. Their lives are becoming meaningless, no matter of their importance in the past. We are doing everything we can, to earn the elderly's trust and to drive them eventually not only to the doctor's but also for example to cultural events.
On the last day we are going to invite the youth to participate - we will cooperate with one youth centre and together we will find the way how to spread an important message about the situation, with which the elderly from rural areas are facing concerning their mobility.
In last year our organisation was placed in the Compendium of good practices of sustainable mobility by Slovene Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning.
