Detailed description (English): We will aim to organise an awareness campaign for the Car-Free Day in 2016 via social and traditional media to encourage the citizens of Tbilisi to use alternative means of transport across the city. We plan to organise a series of awareness building events in Tbilisi on the same day, showcasing the benefits of alternative, healthier and cleaner mobility means.
At the same time, the action will work to create a political will and public awareness to speed up the development of cleaner urban transportation means in the city as well as serve as an instrument of behavioral change on a micro level: encouraging a more responsible use of private vehicles by city dwellers.
Target group(s): Citizens of Tbilisi, local authorities and groups working on the issues of urban development, transportation and environment.
Objectives: The action will work to galvanize public opinion to exert a positive pressure on relevant authorities in order to introduce the measures that will reduce pollution, noise and harmful emissions in the city and create foundations for a more environmentally sustainable urban development.
Expected Outcomes: Thousands of city residents forgo the use of private vehicles on the car free day and use alternative mobility options. Public awareness on benefits of reduced noise, pollution and emissions is significantly improved. Political will to address the issue of more environmentally sustainable transportation and mobility policy is strengthened.
Partner: We are working with like minded groups to join our initiative.
