Detailed description (English): More than 650 students from Ramnicu Valcea and 2 of the localities on the outskirts, aged from 7 to 10 years old, took part at the second edition of the Traffic Snake Game, the European Union’s Intelligent Energy Europe programme.
For 2 weeks, participating students from I.G. Duca, No.4, No.5, Goranu, Anton Pann and Antim Ivireanul Schools from Ramnicu Valcea and Magura School and Costea Marinoiu School from the localities on the outskirts of Ramnicu Valcea, went to their schools on foot, by bus, by bike or did car sharing.
Teachers from the classes involved in the Traffic Snake Game organized interactive lessons about the use of sustainable means of transport instead of the use of private cars and about the effects caused by excessive use of cars to the environment.
Teachers talked to students about their option to use the bus or the bike when traveling long distances to the city and to walk when moving shorter distances. They showed to the children how to walk safely in town (how to cross the road, what mean the different colors of the traffic lights), how to go on bike, how to take the bus.
The 250 students from Ramnicu Valcea, who participated in the first campaign Traffic Snake Game have achieved in 2014 savings of more than 3,100 km comparing to traveling by private cars and reduced by more than 500 kilograms the emissions of CO2, so for the 2015 we expect to improve their results!
