Detailed description (English): The project 'How to orientate yourself in town' was introduced to high school students by their teacher as a means to explore the town and at the same time to promote pollution reduction. Six groups of students (aged 16-17) from Colegiul Tehnic de Căi Ferate Unirea in Pașcani (Roumania) were selected to participate in the project during EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK.
Each group left the school and walked different routes to meet eventually at the base of the "town’s stairs”, a sort of point 0 of the town. The idea of mobility was linked to discovering some key points in town (the supermarket, the 'Children’s Club', the esplanade, different clubs and banks). The students were guided by the town map, each one having a different route. They also used their phones’ GPS, which were very useful.
The project as a whole was successful because the students both socialised and used the new technologies.
Target group(s): 14 students aged 16-17.
Objectives: Developing students’ skills to put into practice the theory learned at school by spatial orientation and use of ICT.
Developing behavioural awareness towards a culture of urban mobility.
Expected Outcomes: The students from Colegiul Tehnic de Căi Ferate Unirea Pașcani succeeded in reducing the polluting emissions by walking all through the town.
