Detailed description (English): Our series of events for this year’s EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK start the 16th of September by carrying out a cycling ride at the centre of Katerini for people with disabilities. By cooperating with the campaign Wheeling2Help VOL.2, five wheelchairs will be supplied in the city of Katerini. The specially designed bikes and the volunteers of the association will help to provide a safe ride.
One of our main goals as an association is cycling education, from the 19th till the 23rd of September, we have arranged visits to primary schools. An interactive presentation of the history of the bicycle, its parts and what it should be equipped with, will be shown to students. Not only the importance of lights and of light colored clothing and helmet, but also the significance of following the road signs and regulations are always highlighted in our visits.
Our actions culminate at the end of the week with our visit to the Traffic Education Park for Children, a place of cultivation of driving behaviour where children are asked to answer questionnaires, discuss their driving habits and learn how to repair a flat bike tire.
Within the framework of EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK, for the 5th consecutive year, Podilatiki Apo-drasi Pierias organises a Cycling Treasure Hunt to discover the city of Katerini. The challenge is not just to win, but learn how to respect the road traffic regulations while cycling, integrate seamlessly with the team, be quick-witted with riddles and at the same time dare to guess the brain teasers, each of which represents and leads them to a particular spot in town. The bicycle challenge creates a phenomenal sense of achievement and can be designed to cater for all levels of mobility and fitness. We take cycling and road safety very seriously and all our bicycle treasure hunts include rules, one of the main ones being never to cycle without bike safety lights.
